  We only use high-quality imported pickups that are chosen for their strong tone. They are intended to showcase the full range of the Pickup Director’s ability to blend and combine different pickup configurations, all at a musician-friendly price.

  Single-coil pickups.  The neck & middle positions feature standard single-coil pickups with ceramic magnets and a 5.7K Ω output each, delivering that classic Strat style sound—bright, articulate, & twangy, with low noise performance. In the bridge position, a ceramic-magnet humbucker with a higher 12.5K Ω output provides a thicker, more aggressive voice, ideal for higher-gain playing and modern tones.  All three pickups are wax potted for improved noise reduction, stability, and long-term durability. Polepiece spacing measures 50mm at the neck and middle positions, and 52mm at the bridge humbucker for optimal string alignment and response.

  Dual Hot Rails: These single–coil–sized humbuckers with ceramic magnets deliver a hot 9K Ω of output for bold, driving tone. Wax potting keeps performance tight and noise-free, ensuring every note comes through with clarity and punch. The rail-style design also offers greater forgiveness across string spacing, providing smoother, more consistent response—especially during bends.

  Brown tortoise shell configuration:  This set features three vintage staggered Alnico 5 single-coil pickups with plastic bobbins and ABS conductor lead wire. Alnico 5 is a premium magnet material known for its warmer, more dynamic response compared to ceramic designs—closely associated with classic vintage guitar tones and valued for its natural sustain, musical breakup, and expressive feel.  Resistance ratings measure 5K–6K Ω for the neck & middle pickups, & 6K–7K Ω for the bridge, delivering a balanced output across all positions. Pole spacing is precisely matched at 50mm for the neck & middle but 52mm at the bridge, ensuring accurate string alignment and consistent magnetic response.  All three pickups are hand-wound and feature vintage staggered pole pieces, with individually offset poles designed to naturally accommodate string radius and height variation—reducing any need for extensive individual pole adjustment while maintaining even output and articulation across all strings.

  Your Own Pickups: If you’re looking for actual name-brand pickups, we also offer a pickup-free version of our pre-loaded pickguard featuring the Pickup Director.  Just use the built-in screw terminals to easily connect your own pickups and create a fully customized setup with your own choice of pickups! If you send us the pickups, we can do that installation of a very reasonable price of $45.
