Pickup Director pairs with a free App called Pickup Composer™ via Bluetooth. Once paired, you can scale up or down the number of different pickup wirings or sounds. You can change the order of how they are arranged in the menu, change the type of guitars, load defaults, and more. This is done by electronically re-routing the wiring on the fly. How cool is that? The Pickup Director advanced smart pickup switch comes as a module attached to a Push/Pull POT that holds the small PC Board (2.8” by 1.14” by 0.5”) in place with a single mounting hole.

The Ambrosonics Pickup Composer app, via Bluetooth, shows you a visual indication on how the pickups are wired with our easy-to-understand color coding method.
Blue - Wired as a single coil
Red - Wired as a Humbucker
Cream - Out of Phase
Black - Not On
You get a real-time visual display as you scroll through 50 different pickup wirings. WIth the push/pull pot in the up position, you get all the settings available, for your instruments configuration, with the first 3 -5 settings - the standards that come stock on your guitar. With that potentiometer up, you are auditioning the new sounds, but when you push that pot down, your new sounds will be stored in the positions of your guitar switches.
With the Pickup Composer, you can do things such as edit the options you want on your instrument. You can change the phase of the pickup, move sounds, and scale the number of sounds you assign to your instrument, from 10 - 50, depending on your instrument. There are no hidden costs to the software. It is provided as a fully no-charge tool to allow you to get the most out of your Pickup Director with 44+ other pickup wirings you've probably have never heard... till now!
L3 is the center single coil pickup that is now is in series (color red, symbol =>) with L4 (the single coil neck pickup), so they now sound like a humbucker style pickup!
They are now in parallel with L1 bridge pickup (color blue, symbol) splitting the bridge humbucker into 2 with L1 acting as a single coil and L2 (color black) is not on!
This is the same guitar as in Preset 14. It is 2 single coil pickups with a humbucker style pickup in the bridge.
L1 & L2 are humbuckers (color red, symbol =>), is your standard humbucker. But then the 2 single coil pickups, center & neck pickups are also wired as a humbucker (color red, symbol =>So all 4 pickups are wired in series as ONE BIG Humbucker. A monster of a sound!
This guitar has 3 single coil pickups.
L1 (the bridge pickup, now in series with L3 the center pickup (color red, symbol =>), so now L1 & L3 sounds like a humbucker style pickup instead of sounding like 2 single coil pickups. They are in parallel with L4, the neck pickup (color blue, symbol //), & that neck pickup still sounds like a single coil pickup. Pretty amazing!
This guitar has 2 humbucker type pickups.
L1 (the bridge pickup, now in series with L4 the neck pickup (color red, symbol =>), so now L1 & L4 sounds like a humbucker style even though they are the farthest apart! They are in parallel with L2, (whcih is 1/2 of the bridge pickup (color blue, symbol //), so L2 now sounds like a single coil pickup, even though it is in reality part of the bridge humbucker!
