About Us

Ambrosonics was founded by Eric Ambrosino in 1986 as a way to combine the art of creating music with the art of engineering. Formally educated in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Eric found the merging of music and engineering to be his passion.

Combining the Passion of Technology & Music.

Since childhood, Eric Ambrosino’s passion for playing guitar has grown to music of all styles and genres, but especially the free improvisation of contemporary jazz, which resonates most with his roots and in his bones.

Musical activities always seemed to require electronic intervention. Designing custom products and providing solutions for local studios, musicians, and music companies quickly became another passionate side of life.

Eric Ambrosino enjoys sharing his experience with others, and that’s how AMBROSONICS was born. Today AMBROSONICS, continues to develop custom-designed products like the Pickup Director™ and provides engineering services to companies, musicians, OEM products to guitar brands and clients worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide support?

Ambrosonics products are precision-engineered and inherently technical. A working knowledge of guitar electronics is recommended to fully benefit from these products. Support is available for guidance and clarification, with the expectation that users are comfortable working with electronics.

Where are Ambrosonics Products Made?

Ambrosonics products are designed, manufactured, assembled and tested in the USA with quality components from around the world. Our products, accessories, hot rodded guitars and more are made in batch runs and are continuously improved for exceptional quality and growth.

How do I know if it will work on my guitar?

It depends on the specific product. Many Ambrosonics products are designed to work right out of the box with minimal setup. However, more advanced components—such as the DSP-45 Module, Pickup Directors, Pre-loaded Pickguards, Switches, and Electronics boards— a good understanding of guitar electronics is recommended.

For Pickup Director hardware, compatibility depends on your guitar’s existing pickups, wiring, control layout, and available cavity space. Single-coil pickups are fully compatible, while humbuckers must have four-conductor wiring plus a shield. Some installation or modification may be required.

Do I need to drill holes in my guitar?

Not necessarily. The Pickup Director is designed to fit into an existing tone control or other control hole on your guitar. If your guitar already has a mini coil tap or other switch installed, the Pickup Director’s Mini Bank Select switch can typically use that same location. In some cases, the hole may need to be slightly widened to ensure a proper fit.

Do I need a battery on board my guitar?

A power source is required—typically between 5 and 9 volts—to run the electronics. An onboard 9V battery is one option, but it’s not the only one.

The Pickup Director is designed to support remote power via a quality TRS (stereo) guitar cable using our Remote Power TRS System allowing you to power your guitar without a battery inside the guitar. It also supports running from both onboard and external power sources simultaneously.

Additionally, the Ambrosonics USB-C 3000 Power Bank system can be used to supply 5V, 9V, or even 12V, depending on your setup.

What about the Ambrosonics USB-C 3000 Power Bank? How is that installed?

A great solution for NOT requiring a battery box on the back of your guitar! Just a single ¾” drill hole next to your existing ¼” jack plate and 2 small screws and you’re ready for power.
